3-Day Mount Oldoinyo Lengai Adventure

After an early breakfast in Arusha, your professional tour guide/driver will pick you up to begin your two-day journey. The drive takes about four hours along rough but scenic roads, offering views of dramatic landscapes as you approach Mount Oldoinyo Lengai.

Upon arrival at Lake Natron, the world’s only breeding ground for more than 1.5 million Lesser Flamingos, you will enjoy birdwatching and learn about the unique environment. The highlight of the day is a guided hike to the Engaresero Waterfalls, where you can cool off in the refreshing pools before heading to your lodge or campsite for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, explore more of Lake Natron, observing flocks of flamingos and other water birds along the lake’s shores. You will also visit the Munge Waterfalls, a thundering cascade where you can enjoy a swim in natural pools. Return to your lodge in the afternoon to rest, have lunch, and prepare for the midnight departure for the summit climb. Evening and dinner are spent at the lodge, resting before the early start.

Summit Mt Oldoinyo Lengai – Return to Arusha

At 1:00 a.m., depart for the base of Mount Oldoinyo Lengai, Tanzania’s only active volcanic mountain, revered by the Maasai as the “Mountain of God.” The trek to the summit takes approximately 4 hours, where you will enjoy panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and the Ngorongoro Crater. After sunrise, descend to the base for breakfast, lunch, and relaxation at the camp.

If desired, a visit to a Maasai Boma can be arranged in the evening for a cultural experience—please notify us in advance. Later, drive back to Arusha for drop-off, dinner, and overnight stay, concluding your adventure.
